Founded by Jim and Kendra Schofield

Jim and Kendra met in 1998, right here on Long Caye. Jim retired from his dental practice in Tucson and had come to Long Caye while on a walkabout, searching for a new beginning. Kendra was a Realtor from Portland also looking for a different direction in life. They bumped into each other on this island and fell in love with each other and with this little corner of paradise. They decided to make it their home and wanted a way to support a simple island lifestyle, so started Off The Wall from humble beginnings. Starting out in a tent, and over many years, the resort was slowly built to what it is today. After three decades creating Off The Wall from a vision to an idyllic island resort, Jim and Kendra have decided to enjoy a well-earned retirement. Since August 2025, Off The Wall is under new management.

Meet The Owner: Peter Lawson

Peter Lawson was born and raised in Utah and resides there still. In 1980, after graduating from college, he went to work at the family ski resort. It was there that he met Cully Erdman. Cully had been there for a few years after the days he graduated from college. It was at that time that Cully started the Slickrock Adventures guiding company. Cully loved the sandstone formations of southern Utah affectionately known as “slickrock”. Over the ensuing years Cully continued to explore new regions. Sea of Cortez, eastern Mexico, and finally settled in Belize. All the while his main office remained located in Moab, Utah.
In 1990, Peter left his position at the ski resort and relocated to Moab where he purchased a farm, married, and started a family. Moab, being a small town, became the place where Peter and Cully’s paths crossed again.
By 2000 Cully had developed the facilities on Long Caye, Glovers Atoll in Belize. Peter’s first visit to Long Caye was in 2010. In those days his activity loves were sailboarding and scuba diving. This was when he first met Jim and Kendra, the owners of Off The Wall Dive Resort.
Over the next decade Peter made many visits to Long Caye. In 2021 Peter met the new owner of “Slickrock”, Phil Dowsett. The next year Peter and Phil agreed to become partners. During this time Jim and Kendra were actively pursuing the sale of their business. Peter began negotiations with them and the sale was made to him in 2025. Peter has great love for the island and deep respect for what the previous owners have created. He is interested in maintaining the character while exploring minor refinements. He believes that it is a unique spot and should be preserved carefully.

Eco Practices

Off The Wall is charmingly rustic with manicured grounds of tropical foliage and meandering white sand paths lined with conch shells, and candlelight at night, leading you to your private beach front cabana. The cabanas are welcoming, comfortable and clean, furnished and decorated with local art, oil and candle lanterns and solar powered lights. Each beach cabana has an inviting veranda with an ocean view and a hammock, great for enjoying the cool ocean breeze, reading a book, watching the sunset or moonrise.

Due to Long Caye’s remote location, and necessity to keep things simple, Off The Wall was built to be gentle on the environment.
