Founded by Jim and Kendra Schofield
Jim and Kendra met in 1998, right here on Long Caye. Jim retired from his dental practice in Tucson and had come to Long Caye while on a walkabout, searching for a new beginning. Kendra was a Realtor from Portland also looking for a different direction in life. They bumped into each other on this island and fell in love with each other and with this little corner of paradise. They decided to make it their home and wanted a way to support a simple island lifestyle, so started Off The Wall from humble beginnings. Starting out in a tent, and over many years, the resort was slowly built to what it is today. After three decades creating Off The Wall from a vision to an idyllic island resort, Jim and Kendra have decided to enjoy a well-earned retirement. Since August 2025, Off The Wall Belize Adventures is under new management.
An avid outdoor lover, Peter Lawson was born and raised in Utah and resides there still. In 1980, after graduating from college, he went to work at Alta Ski Lifts Company. It was there that he met Cully Erdman, Slickrock Adventures founder.
Cully had been there for a few years after the days he graduated from college. He loved the sandstone formations of southern Utah affectionately known as “slickrock”, and it was during this time that Cully started the guiding company. Over the ensuing years Cully continued to explore new regions as locations for adventure, including the Sea of Cortez, eastern Mexico and, finally, in Long Caye, Belize. All the while Slickrock Adventures‘ main office remained located in Moab, Utah.
Meanwhile, in 1990, Peter left his position at the ski resort and relocated to Moab where he purchased a ranch and began a new chapter of his life. Being a small town, Peter and Cully’s paths soon crossed again and Peter’s first visit to Long Caye was in 2010. In those days, his activity loves were sailboarding and scuba diving. This is also when he first met Jim and Kendra, the owners of Off The Wall Dive Resort.
Over the next decade Peter made many visits to Long Caye and in 2021 he met Phil Dowsett, Slickrock’s new owner. The next year Peter and Phil agreed to become partners. During this time Jim and Kendra were actively pursuing the sale of their business. Peter began negotiations with them and the sale was made to him in 2025.
Peter has great love for the island and deep respect for what the previous owners have created. He is interested in maintaining the character and quality, while exploring minor refinements. He believes that it is a unique spot and should be preserved carefully.
